Many women had to take on different assignments after the men left for war. They had to work managing shops and farming to take of large families. Many women who didn’t have the knowledge or survival skills of farming suffered. They became short of food and supplies in a month. Therefore many women and children died around this time. Women were experiencing freedom from being wives. They wrote letters to their husband to express how much they missed them. They referred to their husbands farms and crops as “ours” ( Cengage 146 63). One woman by the name of Grace Galloway still resided in America, even though her husband Joseph Galloway a loyalist exiled. She remained in America living in poverty to maintain his property.
