Great In Bed Summary

For the Media review assignment, I chose to read “ Great in Bed” by Herbenick and Stoddard. The reason I chose to read this book was because its titled seemed appealing and it was the only book I could find for free online. As I started to read the book, I started to realize a problem; this book was very explicit and detailed in its analysis of sexual activities. I have no problem with explicit depictions of sex, but I do not “enjoy” it. Much like 50 shades of grey, the use of material in robust manners just seems unnecessary. Whatever the case is, I enjoyed the reading material. The main objective of the book was to get people well acquainted with their bodies, body parts and other problems that influence their sexual life. The idea of sexual …show more content…
The main idea of these chapters’ is to revolve around the underlying aspect of satisfying your partners’ needs. For example, learning to arouse a woman by touching her breasts or being able to use both hands to please your partner. These skills are important because they minimize accidents; learning to use your finger to please a girl, rather than, assuming you know what to do and taking a chance. The authors, after providing tips and alternatives to preventing accidents, then discuss the sex positions that are used, not used, un-conventional, tantric and many more. The book goes in depth as to what position will provide greater satisfaction and other methods of satisfaction that have proven to work. The authors want to provide the reader the best resources to enable them to pursue their physical needs and wants, without any fear of accidents or problems. The authors then discuss the possible preventative techniques to STI’s, problems with partners, and other conflicts that may impact sexual activity. The authors provide a brief description of each STI along with preventative methods for contraception or diseases. The book, as a whole, informed the viewer on how to have sex, but remain safe. With the information from the book, the reader can gain a sense of understanding as to how to do, handle and perform actions that will greatly aid their sexual …show more content…
In short, the movie was a depiction of how a bad event in your life, can change your life for the better. The main character, Ron Woodroof, had received notice that he had Aids and needed treatment. Being a hustler and an electrician, he began to pursue to find a treatment. When he found the treatment, he was unsure as to whether it would work and so he tested the drug on himself. To his luck, the drug, not passed by the FDA, had helped him live and made him seek the idea to help others with the same problem. He got the drugs from Mexico as he was a hustler and that connection led him to helping others with the same problem. The debate over whether it was right or wrong came down to one simple fact, he was a drug dealer. Whether that's a valid argument or not, that was the block in his path. He chose to do what he wanted to and help people who were dying from Aids; he was in the same boat and most likely would have been gone if he did not do what he did. The movie depicted some controversial gender roles; Rayon, the transgender, was the individual whom got Ron clients through his connection to the Gay community. But, the overall lesson learned is do you help people try something that may save their life, even if it entails doing illegal activities; or, do you just not intervene into matters that do not involve you? What’s the right thing to

This book should not be banned. It is a fact of life, explicit acts of intercourse happen and the experiences depicted in this book show you what happens in life. I do not see these actions of explicitness bad or inappropriate for the readers. Thinking back to middle school, in the sixth grade we started talking about the human sex organs and how they worked. In the seventh grade we had our STD/STI unit in science.…

He uses this personal example to draw more people in and explain to them how this whole concept of explicit movies was foreign to him. Now, however, he states that “Today another sex scene is just another sex scene.” Jacoby provides factual evidence such as stating that “Central park joggers get raped and beaten into comas” and “Los Angeles rioters burn down their neighborhood and murder dozens of their neighbors.” He also states that “Lorena Bobbitt mutilates her husband in his sleep…Pro-life fanatics open fire on abortion clinics... The U.S. Naval Academy fills up with cheaters” and last he states how “the teen suicide rate goes through the roof.”…

In a book entitled Sexual Conduct, John Gagnon and William Simon described their sexual script theory. This idea brought clearer understanding to human sexual encounters. Simon and Gagnon suggested that sexual behaviors was more about social meaning than animal urges. Sexual scripts proposes the importance of meanings and symbols in human sexuality. This scripting approach to sexuality allowed us to connect the different aspects of sexuality, such as interpersonal, intrapsychic, and cultural.…

The majority of people who read books would not attack Judy Bloom’s books if she had published her novels today, but in the 80’s, people considered her books odd and inappropriate. Consequently, they were challenged and close to being banned, even though now many books and movies are “different” and contain sexual content so there is less of a reason to challenge her books. Since books like the Giver were and are still read by children, adults may have said they did not want their elementary or middle school children to read the “inappropriate” content in Judy Bloom’s books. Luckily, in today’s modern times, children can read her books without any…

I feel more people than we realize are curious but are not willing to act on their curiosities because of the fear of how he or she may be seen and or treated differently because of it. I personally feel it is not fair for someone to not live as his or her true selves due to how others may respond. I also do not understand the negativity towards pornography. I understand people may have no interest in it and that is completely fine, but just because it is not always “love-based” and not seen as “art” does not necessarily have to be negative. In this movie, this pornography for Ben and Andrew ended up bringing them closer together, and they were also able to realize their true feelings and come to the conclusion that neither one of them could go through with the act.…

I chose the book The New Male by Sexuality, by Bernie Zilbergeld….. this book is concerned with men and sex, as the title indicates, its interest is not by any means restricted to a man’s penis . Instead, it thoughtfully explores the relationship between a penis and that other thing between a man's ears. Consequently, it is equally concerned with that thing that happens – or, sometimes, does not happen – between two people, one or both of whom is male, especially when those two people are, have been, will be, want to be, or are afraid to be sexual with each other. According to Zilbergeld, many men in our society are extremely anxious about sex.…

Once Anastasia and Christian have an agreement, and start engaging in the BDSM relationship, she quickly wants to explore her sexuality in greater detail and learn her own ‘dark desires’ quickly after losing her virginity to him. The author does an exceptional job with this book because it allows readers to grasp what this type of relationship is like, since it is not a typical form of sexual expression. This book is groundbreaking because it truly tests societal norms in terms of human sexuality. It also lets the reader know that his or her sexual expression is solely based on the individual, as everyone is different.…

Contrary to popular belief, the ‘sex manual’ does not see love as a holy act of union that requires patience and endurance. Adolescent sexual activity and little knowledge on how to protect themselves against STI/STD’s may be answered through more advanced sex education classes in school. Comprehensive knowledge to these subjects will be provided in the classroom including: birth controls, the use of condoms to prevent STI/STD’s, sexual behavior, meanwhile also encouraging abstinence and delayed sexual activity. Few parents disagree with school’s providing the information to their children; although, the parents who do contradict may not be willing to provide information about this subject and the knowledge the adolescents need to know. A child has the ability to have sexual interactions whether or not they are taught safe sex; so why not provide the information they need to know to keep themselves…
