Good morning on this very special day.
I am Ava Pinette a 7th-grader at city school.
To start I want to thank you for putting your lives on hold to protect our present and future. It took real bravery to do what you did. All of you could never be thanked enough.

I was lucky enough to get a chance to speak to all of you.

Luckily, Congress made Armistice Day a national holiday so we have a set day to celebrate our veterans. Then in 1954 President Eisenhower changed it to veteran’s day to honor all veterans, rather than just from WW1. This is why it’s important to honor our veterans.…

Most people think of Veterans Day as a day off from school or work, well they are wrong. Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S Military Veterans. It coincides with other holidays including Armistice Day and Remembrance Day, which are celebrated in other parts of the world and also the anniversary of the end of World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, when the Armistice with Germany went to effect.) Veterans Day is not to be confused with Memorial Day.…

The U.S. would have never increased into the amounts of protection towards our freedom and justice it is today without the sacrifices our heroes have made. Our heroes risk their lives not only at war, but at home. While our veterans are out fighting for our freedom, they cannot be at home supporting and making great memories with their families.…

I am writing to thank you for your service to the United States and wish you a happy Veterans Day. The magnitude of your selflessness and courage is incomprehensible to me, and though these may be trite words, I sincerely mean what I say. I can think of no experience more inherently laudable and worthy of profound respect than serving in the armed forces. What compounds my gratitude of your service specifically is your modesty in discussing your service. Indeed, I believe you mentioned your service only once or twice in class.…

Today, we get to celebrate the culmination of our thirteen years of hard work in school with graduation, and I have been asked to deliver this year’s commencement speech. I would like to thank all of the people that have brought us here: family members, teachers, principals, and people who would go out of their way to encourage us to keep trying hard even in the midst of failure. Without you, we would not be standing on this stage today. I would like to start by defining the word “commencement.”…
