Goals For Ministry Research Paper

Improved Essays
My primary career goal is to become a pastor, preferably in an inner city setting. This career path opens a myriad of doors to change the world around me. By interacting on a daily basis with people who have not grown up as well-off as I have, I will have endless opportunities to share love and hope. I have wanted to pursue ministry as a career since I was in middle school. While I cannot point to a specific moment when I realized that I should pursue vocational ministry, I am positive that my God-given purpose is in this field. One mentor who has done a great deal in cultivating my passions for ministry and for other people is my youth pastor Tim Veenstra. Being able to watch Tim preach, teach, and interact with students in a consistently joyful and loving manner has provided me with an excellent model for the type of pastor I desire to be.

While this specific scenario may not come to fruition exactly as I expect it, I am confident in my calling; thus, I cannot say that I have a concrete backup plan. As of right now, I am focused on pursuing the path God has set before me. If God chooses to lead me away from full-time ministry, I am positive that He will provide another career that utilizes the gifts and talents with which He has blessed me.
One thing I would like the selection committee to know is that I tend to place a high value on what I have accomplished, perhaps even on some of the achievements listed on this application. I continually struggle against pride and arrogance as a result, so I must constantly remind myself that these achievements are temporary and ultimately meaningless. If I am decided to be the recipient of this scholarship by merit of my character, I will gladly accept it; however, if my achievements prove to speak more loudly than my character, I truly do not believe I am

What my husband's advancement to Chief Petty Officer means to me? The answer of that question could be 10 pages long or I could just resume what I feel in one word, "extremely proud", well I guess two words. I met Christian 16 years ago, he was full of energy, funny, and he had the ability to turn any sad or bad situation into a joke making everybody laugh; that is what make me fell in love with him. On the other hand, he was a little immature, unfocused when it comes to work, and nothing seemed to fulfill his expectations. I always knew that his passion was a career in the military, but that was out of question in my book!…

I am also willing to bet there are a fair amount of applicants who meet the unwritten standards needed to receive this scholarship. I will not boast promises of outstanding grades or how this money could build my future. Instead, I will tell of my past, allowing my personality speak for itself. Growing up my parents always encouraged my siblings and me to stay true to ourselves, whether that is morally, mentally, and/or physically.…

Mentorship plays such an important role in all of our lives regardless of vocation and interests. Delving into history we see how many of the renowned innovators, actors, politicians, and business leaders were mentored during some stage of their lives. I can recall the names of a few mentor-mentee relationships I became aware of over time - Plato mentored by Socrates - David Letterman mentored by Peter Lassally - Warren Buffet mentored by Benjamin Graham – Steve Jobs mentored by Robert Friedland - Russell Crowe mentored by Tom Sharpin and Bill Gates mentored by Dr. Ed Roberts. Having participated in mentorship at both ends of the spectrum, I know firsthand about its benefits, which include maturity, focus, diligence, accountability and sustained…

My hope is that my personal faith and beliefs will greatly contribute to Liberty's mission to develop Christ-centered leaders. My faith is very strong, but there have been many times where I felt that I had lost that faith. But no matter how far I strayed from Him, God always found a way to pull me back in His direction and each time, my faith grew and continues to grow stronger. Two years ago, for instance, an older lady at my church passed away very suddenly. She was singing a special during the morning church service and an aneurysm and collapsed.…

There's a quote that goes, "Success has nothing to do with what you gain in life or accomplish for yourself. It's what you do for others." Being the son of a minister and grandson of a pastor, I've always been raised to have a profound sense of commitment to others. During my junior year of college, I became project coordinator of a youth mentoring program called "Men on the Move". A year ago today I was filling out this same application contemplating what my dreams and aspirations were. I was naive and sheltered, unaware of what awaited me as I stepped into the “real” world. This past year has been a year of change, I am attending a school that has helped me come into my own personally, professionally, and academically.
