* Meteorology is the scientific study of the atmosphere and the phenomenon that we usually refer to as weather. It is considered one of the Earth sciences that we seek to understand about our planet.
* Weather is a term that refers to the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place. It can change hour by hour or day by day.
2.) List the basic elements of weather and climate:
*Temperature in the air, humidity of the air, the type and amount of cloudiness, the type and amount of precipitation, the pressure exerted by the air and the speed and direction of the wind.
3.) List the at least five storm- related atmospheric hazards and three atmospheric hazards that are not …show more content…

1.) List and briefly define the four spheres that constitute the Earth system:
*Geosphere: Consist of what’s beneath the atmosphere and the ocean is the solid Earth. It is the largest of the four spheres. Includes the core, mantle and the crust.
*Atmosphere: Is a very thin life-giving gaseous envelope. This thin blanket protects us and also gives us weather here on Earth. Without it we would not have weather, life or be able to operate.
*Hydrosphere: all the waters on the earth's surface, such as lakes and seas, and sometimes including water over the earth's surface, such as clouds.
*Biosphere: Includes all life on Earth – water and land.
2.) Compare the height of the atmosphere to the thickness of the geosphere
*Geosphere is the largest, about 4,000 miles while the atmosphere is about 20 miles.
3.) How much of the Earth’s surface do oceans cover? How much of the planets total water supply do the oceans represent?
*71% of the Earth’s surface
*Accounts for about 97% of Earths
