How are females and males portrayed on prime time Television?
According to the reading text (Psychology of women), men and women are portrayed different on prime time television for different reasons which is link to gender stereotypes. I watched five different prime time television to get a close view of how men and women are portrayed in the media. Therefore, men and women are not placed on the same pedestal. Some prime television shows major characters of men as strong, aggressive, powerful and protective, especially to the women. Because some prime television labelled women as being weak in appearance. Therefore, some of the prime shows that men are always in charge of the character are, Spider man, superman, bat man, flash, criminal minds and so on. These shows portray men as strong and defensive as well as vibrant. Also in the class text book (Psychology of women) by Claire A. Etaugh and Judith S. Gay men and lesbian in the prime shows has lost their self-worth and as well as underrepresented because of sex orientation. They are portrayed as unattractive, sad, psychopathic and unstable. Prime television portrayed their character negatively because of the way the live their own lives. But today, story has changed as these group of people (Gay and Lesbian) are now well accepted in the recent years.
