It is commonly used for researching children viewing habits of television, what messages they received, and if it will affect them in adulthood. There has been no research done using this theory and focusing in on female roles in science fiction horror films. This theory will help support my results on if the viewing of these fictional female roles affected their roles in their real future. The most interesting article found was Effects of Gender Roles and Self Perceptions on Affective Reactions in Horror Films written by Mundorf et al, (1988). They focused on gender roles and not sex roles. Since this was written in the 80’s it was delightful to see them writing about gender and not sex. Today the word gender is one of the most talked about because people are opening up about what gender they relate to and sometimes it is not the same sex they are born as. This opened my eyes and helped me realize that for future research should be focused on gender roles and not the sex roles because they are two different things. It will be interesting to see if gender roles have changed in the newer films from the older films. In order to get the results, a survey would be given out to the subjects asking them what they think of these stuck roles and if they will ever
