The film Girlfight illustrates a story of a teenage girl in the city who aspires to become a professional boxer. Against all opposing forces she is able to overcome the objections to her passion through hard work and determination. Diana fighting the system of stratified gender inequality through her determination to box. Within her family Diana is constantly battling her fathers resistance to the idea of her becoming a boxer. In fact it seems for the majority of the movie Mr. Guzman only ever seems concerned with her when it involves a service she can do for him like making the meals or delivering payment to Hector for training Tiny. By the end of the film Mr. Guzman finds out about her boxing and is in a rage, it is only after Diana physically beats him to the ground does it seem that he is finally able to see her. His treatment towards his daughter stems for the way he treated his wife, who committed suicide when Diana was young. Male dominance was a regular accepted dynamic within the Guzman household.
