Gang Violence Case Study

1. Phoenix felt that because of the violence that they have been experiencing in the summer of 1977 has helped them to come up with an idea to make the G.R.E.A.T program. A few years later the police started making documents of 150 street gangs and 885 gang members which was arrested for different minor crimes to murder and also 9 gangs that happen to be related homicides. From 1987-1988 the California gangs would influence and associate with the Crips to be able to expand their drug markets in places like Arizona.
2. In the year of 1998 the violence had risen because of turf and the drug-market had disputes between the long Hispanic gangs and the black gang. A year later the police acknowledge this gang problems and also states that city leaders has withhold the money from kids program. Perceived: Send out a survey to the community and get their opinion about what they think needed to be improve.
Expressed: Did the police receive complaints about different gangs or gang’s violence?
Relative: is there any community that has similar need that receives more service and etc.?
4. Program Hypothesis: If the city of Phoenix was able to establish a program to help their young people to be able to develop a positive lifestyle that would help them to avoid gangs involvement and bad behavior, then gang membership would decline this would help the youth to be able to have a positive outcome toward the police.
