First, the emotions or neurobehavior of a person may be affected in ways such as being over- emotional, having a flat affect (emotionless), mood swings and alexithymia, which is the inability to understand the emotions in others. For example if a person had alexithymia they would not be able to tell that when a person was smiling that they were happy. One area that could be difficult for a client could be a reduced attention span as well as difficulty shifting focus between topics which would make it difficult to have a conversation with someone else. (Asha.org, n.d) Another cognitive impairment could include reasoning and problem solving as well as planning and organization. If there are deficits in these specific areas patients could have difficulty living on their own and completing tasks of everyday living. (Asha.org, n.d) In relation to planning and organizing there could also be difficulty in sequencing. This could include not being able to complete tasks in the correct order or forgetting specific steps. Another cognitive impairment could include perseveration of verbal responses meaning the person is repeating their response and cannot move onto the next
