Incoming Freshman The thought of going to college can create fear in students. According to Randall S. Hansen, author of “Your First Year of College: 25 Strategies and Tips to Help You Survive and Thrive Your Freshman Year and Beyond,” there are multiple ways students can cope with the stress. In his article he gives helpful advice, “Whatever you do, be sure to be yourself and try to enjoy your college experience as much as possible. Expect to feel some stress and homesickness, but don’t let these issues wear you down.”…
As my application is examined, it will come to the attention that no activities or descriptions are included from my sophomore year of high school. That would be because I actually did not have a sophomore year. Advancing forward a full year in high school would have to be one of the most challenging, longest lasting, incredibly difficult circumstances that I have ever found myself in. Not only was this decision strenuous when it came to academic struggles, but I found myself facing family skirmishes, social problems, and issues with the Board at my school. Even though so many obstacles could have been avoided by choosing to take the easiest route available to me, I would not trade my experiences for anything because ultimately, they formed me into the person who I need to be in order to pursue my dreams and taught me more than I could have ever imagined learning.…
Freshman year was one of the hardest years of my life. It was the first year that I wasn’t the top dog on the totem pole. I was one of those freshman that was annoying, immature, and cocky. That all changed the first day of high school. It changed for the better, because I am now a lot better off with my attitude.…
I think I am a strong candidate for this program because I have always been involved in several activities in order to expand my personal growth and knowledge. Here at Penn State, I am a member of the Anthropology Club and treasurer of the Sophomore Year Experience Special Living Option. Sophomore Year Experience is in the process of being developed into an officially recognized organization here at the main campus. My fellow executive board members and committee members are developing activities, classes, and programs to involve sophomores in finding more information about majors, internships, and future career plans. These organizations have given me the opportunity to develop leadership roles and communication skills as these are necessary…
It felt like middle school to me. However, once I started my sophomore year, completing my schoolwork with excellence no longer came naturally. It became more difficult to maintain an A every quarter and on every assignment in my classes. While I often became frustrated when I was unable to exceed or even meet my high standards, I geared my emotions towards my work.…
When coming into middle school a lot of people are really scared what’s gonna happen. Middle school is scary at first when you come as 6th grader but, usually you have to get used to people and also participating in other things in your school. But usually you have to explore middle school a little bit and even trying new things for yourself and being happy. But if you're gonna be sad when you enter middle school things are gonna be hard for you when you come to middle school. When you're coming to middle school your always gonna get lots of homework.…
For the past year, I could only provide an indefinite answer to a frequently asked question, How was your freshman year? In fact, those of us who experienced our freshman year could be addressed as “college veterans” will never initiate a conversation with regard to the past year. Perhaps they consider that the freshman year was not as consummate as they initially planned. I cannot judge my first year in college was successful or frustrating, but I feel I benefited from the meritorious experiences and practical knowledge gained from my college life. In my opinion, no matter what goals one wishes to achieve in college, whether its grade, love, health, or sense of accomplishment, one has to be prepared for both failures and…
Students with normal school days already have a hard time staying awake in class let alone adding another hour to the day. Some schools now have one more hour than others but it doesn't make it a good thing. Schools should not be lengthened by one hour because it would be harder on the students to get up in the morning, students that play sports would have a harder time getting to practice, and students would have less time after school to do things they like. One disadvantage of schools adding another hour is that students would have a harder time with waking up early. Most students in middle school get up at around 7:00 to get ready for school if they were to add another hour into the end of the day students would get home at a later time…
In the Spring of last year, it was my Junior year, one of the most critical years in high school. It’s the year that colleges look at the most, also it was the year that I was in some of the most challenging classes. Mostly honors, a lot of homework, and tests to go along with it. Studying would take me until late at night, and even on weekends, all day long. When it’s the end of the term everyone checks their grades for their report cards, and progress reports.…
The beginning of my senior year was all about remembering my schedule and staying on top of my homework. That was a difficult task because I was working part-time at the nursing home and studying EMT at SWCC. I managed to succeed in my college classes earning an A and B. I remember working on Friday and trying to take…
I decided to become an Early college high school student, because I knew it would help a low-income, first-generation college student, English language learner, and Hispanic like me achieve a higher education. One of the most valuable advantages of being and Early college high school student in my opinion would be the motivation and grand expectations you feel about wanting to achieve more. However, taking both college and high school courses requires a lot of dedication. You must learn to mature and challenge yourself always as a student.…
My Freshman year was very different for me because I had changed from Franklinton Middle School to Bunn High School. I hated it at Bunn because I did not fit in and I felt like a outcast. There was some crazy looking people there but I am not the type to judge but they were some weird people. After a few days people started letting me sit with them because I would sit at lunch by myself.…
I've made a lot of mistakes, just like any other person, but one shining example that comes to mind when I think about growth from personal failure is my freshman year of high school. I failed English, Algebra, and Health. I had to spend three days in summer school recovering credits. My freshman year of high school was a tough year. I had a very hard time staying motivated and focused, forget being anywhere near organized.…
My sophomore year, thought, I had plenty of friends who really distracted me. It wasn’t their fault; it was mine. I wasn’t taking my education very seriously at that moment. I thought it was a joke and I never paid attention to my teachers.…
There in high school you have many memories, you start your year off as a freshman, you begin to have numerous memories throughout the year, you have your ups and downs and your start thinking to yourself that your can 't do it, you don’t understand anything that everyone else understands. My freshman year in high school didn 't go so well then I thought it was going to. My grades slowly when down the drain, I didn 't care what my grades were until I realized if I didn 't get my act together I would be spending my whole summer vacation in summer school because I didn 't care what my grades were. In high school, my grades weren’t as the best than other individuals. Throughout my high school years, I had progressed.…
