Banking teachers don’t like their knowledge to be tested they feel that the teacher teaches and the student are to be taught, the teacher knows everything and the student know little to nothing, the teacher enforces his or her choices and the students have no choice but to comply. There was a time when my teacher was having a discussion about fire. My teacher said it is physically impossible for any human to with stand a burning fire, because fire is a substance combined with oxygen and chemicals from the air. I stated that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego are men recorded in the bible in the book of Daniel that through a burning fire. Irritated by my statement my teacher reiterated that no human can survive a burning; it is physically impossible. This conversation could have gone either way, but I yet explained to her that from my religious point of view this is what I believe. Three men set to be burned alive in a fiery furnace, but no one knew they were servants of the most high God. So no matter how hot they set the furnace God would not allow the fire to touch the three Hebrew boys, so they with stood fire and walked out without any burses or burns. Friere says “In the banking concept of education, knowledge is a gift bestowed by those who consider themselves knowledgeable upon those whom they consider to know nothing.” If this conversation was stated with a Problem posing teacher, they would have been more focused on the concept of what I was trying to say, yet more open to the practical theory behind my beliefs. Problem-posing teachers teach to achieve independent learning for student to become accountable allies in their own learning. Every human being, no matter how young or old should be open minded to every teachable moment possible. In any scenario the banking concept and problem-posing needs to allow the education of learning provide the necessary utensils and practice to prepare students for what to come. I’m not saying anyone’s concept is wrong but I believe everyone should look at situation and scenarios with the problem-posing eye, because it’s not all about the teacher having all the knowledge. Students are just as capable of teaching a teacher something she didn’t know before. To have the mind set of you know everything and everyone else know nothing; is not a good way to go about life. You should allow every moment of your life to be a teachable moment; you could always learn something you didn’t know the day before. Paulo Freire put it best by saying “Whoever teaches learns in the act of teaching, and whoever learns teaches in the act of
