Pathos means the use of emotion and values. For example inspirational quotes, which Roosevelt uses by stating, “The only thing to fear is fear itself” (Roosevelt 1). By using this inspirational quote he is opening up to the people’s emotional side that deals with fear. Also, he is stating that because he is now in charge they have nothing to fear because he will protect and guide them. Although he is persuading them not to fear what has been going on; he uses the ideal of fear to scare them into believing that they can put their trust in him.
