He also describes, “My heart yearned to be known and loved by these amiable creatures.” The creature finds himself “yearning” to be loved like they are loved. However, since he is on the outside and lacks that feeling of love he discovers a feeling of isolation or a sense of being on the outside. This internal feeling and need for love drives the creature to act the way he does. At the same time, he worries about the disgust they could feel about him. With all these mixed emotions in mind, the creature still believes, “I required kindness and sympathy, but I did not believe myself utterly unworthy of it” (146). Implying that although he may look a certain way, he doesn’t grasp whether or not he is worthy of love. His actions of helping the villagers with their labor are based on his motivation to prove himself worthy of love and validate his idea that he deserves the kindness and love that he gives others. “Unworthy” means not deserving of effort, attention, or respect. It is hard to not be impacted by something that you don't have control over. You can’t control how others perceive you and feel about you, but you can control how you react or feel about it. Which ultimately will have more power than how people think about you. When the monster finally reveals himself to the De Lancy family, right away he is not treated with respect or love. Instead, he is being perceived as ugly and being attacked. In response to how he is being attacked, he says, “I could have torn him limb to limb, as a lion rents the antelope. But my heart sunk within me as the bitter sickness, and I refrained. I saw him on the point of repeating his blow, overcome by pain and anguish”(148).
