The most beneficial vocational programs should begin earlier. Specialized vocational programs such as those in vocational and career tech high schools would allow students with an interest in niche fields to be able to pursue them early on in the development of their knowledge; and yes, the popularity of vocational high schools is already tested and known. At Monty Vocational Tech School in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, “more than 700 students applied for about 350 spots” and “at least 3,500 students have been placed on waiting lists for entrance into public vocational schools in Massachusetts in the past two years” (Pannoni). Educators can treat schools like Monty Tech as pilot programs for vocational learning, and their success has been high in the statistics. The model that Monty Tech may propose should be implemented on a smaller scale in public schools, similar to that of a work-study job in a university, but for trades.…

Higher education, otherwise known as post-secondary school, or college, is only beneficial if an individual seeks to find a job that requires a diploma. Trade schools and two-year community colleges, two types of higher education requiring less time to complete than a traditional four year college does, focus more on a particular skill, or knowledge set. However, many jobs require at least a bachelor’s degree in order to qualify for higher paying positions, simply because a four year college requires its students to complete humanities courses that most two year colleges do not. Although college is quite costly, it does have it advantages, and it gives many people opportunities that some might not have.…

With the rise of college admission rates in our ultra competitive society pressuring more and more students to attend college each year, an increasing amount of students are facing college debt. With over 40 million students facing a total of almost 1.4 trillion dollars in loans, student debt creates many economic and social problems in the long run. Mitch Daniels, former governor of Indiana and president of Purdue University, stated that home ownership, marriage, child care and the establishment of businesses have declined as a result of the steadily increasing amount of student loans (Daniels). Because college is so expensive, student loans contradict the purpose of higher education, which is aimed at opening new doors and opportunities for…
