“Five Equations that Changed the World” book consists the discovery of five remarkable equations of five notable scientists from 17th-20th centuries and their outcomes till 20th century.
This book is divided into five chapters. The introduction of each chapter begins with some affected incident in the main character's life which helps the reader to follow the next part. After the introduction, there are three parts, which author labeled as Veni, Vidi, and Vici. These are Latin words mean “I came, I saw, I conquered”. In Veni, author explain how the main character the scientist comes to his enigmatic topic. Vidi describes factually how that topic came to appear so mysterious. Vici clarifies how the scientist was able to defeat that mystery, which generated an important equation. The last section called the Epilogue, it defines how that equation turns on to reform our lives forever. The author selected five equations based on the degree to which they eventually changed our world. The stories attached to these equations are for the purpose to give …show more content…
The first chapter “Apples and Oranges” of the book tells the story of the British natural philosopher Isaac Newton and how he developed his gravitational equation (F=G × M × m÷d^2), which led to a monumental event landing a man on the moon. (Guillen, 1995, p.6) The second chapter "Between a Rock and a Hard Life" tells the story of Swiss physicist Daniel Bernoulli and how he developed his hydrodynamic equation( P+p × 1⁄(2 v^2 )=CONSTANT), which led ultimately to the modern airplane. (Guillen, 1995, p.5) The third chapter "Class Act" tells the story of the British chemist Michael Faraday and how he developed his electromagnetic equation (∇ ×E= -∂B/∂_t), which ultimately led to electricity. (Guillen, 1995, p.5) Explain the historical and/or cultural context, that is, events, beliefs, and values that influenced the ideas/people in the
