First Meeting Between Vivian And Native American

Narratives help people feel a personal connection with an individual. It also helps people gain a different perspective on certain views that they wouldn't have thought of to consider. Through story telling, it allows people to feel connected because of what is being shared. The people feel as one because they both have this shared experience. Stories can also teach people and give them a better understand on something they are unsure about. For example, Native American's used the art of story telling to help their people have a better understanding of the world around them. In the film, the art of story telling was used to reduce uncertainty among individuals. In the film, the first meeting between Vivian and Dr. Blalock, Dr. Blalock thought that Vivian Thomas was just an ordinary janitor. One day, Dr. Blalock saw Vivian reading some of the medical journals and he suspected there was much more to him, but was unsure. Dr. Blalock asked Vivian about his life and ambitions, which helped to reduce the uncertainty about Vivian and his work ethic. Longmire met Vivian for the first time. He was surprised to see a black person operating. He walked in on Vivian doing a procedure on a dog and started to ask him questions. Vivian explained about what he was doing. Dr. Longmire said that the procedure looked impossible and questioned how could Vivian do the procedure with his eyes closed. Vivian told him that you know how a room looks like in the dark and that if he can do it, Dr. Longmire can. Dr. Longmire asked if he could work with Vivian, and Vivian, was surprised and said yes.
