My junior year in high school, I became a student mentor in our campus’s peer counseling program. This was an incredibly rewarding experience as I had the opportunity to help freshman students assimilate into our high school dynamic. As a peer mentor, I assisted students with personal problems and mediated issues with teachers in order to maximize their learning experience. I also acted as a role model for my mentees by talking frequently about AP and Honors courses and how to be successful in such programs. I put effort into learning about each individual's interests and goals so that I could expose them to clubs and academic courses that they may appreciate such as the Biomedical Academy or our school’s robotics team.…
I love being a role model and being able to help others in their need. Ever since Ijoined FFA I have been able to do things I never thought I will be able to do. I have gone out of town to compete in horse judging and Veterinary technician with my team. I have learned all about animal organs, parasites, and breeds. I have also competed in LDE which is Leadership development events.…
1. What are your reasons for applying to Rutgers University School of Social Work? Discuss how your personal, professional, and/or community experiences and values affected your decision? The most important influence for pursing a graduate degree at Rutgers University School of Social Work is to break down barriers and obstacles that have been placed in front of me.…
Reaching a goal and the work it takes to get there can be a long, trying process. My goal is to put together a win to make it to the National FFA Competition on the FFA Nursery Landscape team. I have competed on the Nursery Landscape team from the time I was a freshman. As a team of three freshmen and one sophomore, our main goal was to place as high as we could as individuals which would help our team score. At the State Convention, I wanted to place in the top twenty as an individual.…
Having taken a managerial role in a team in the Cranfield Business Challenge, I've been able to take responsibility for key business decisions and apply my academic theory to real business simulations. I was particularly enthusiastic in applying Porter's Five Forces specifically to assess our market position, examining aspects such as buyer power and what impacts this would have. I have also been able to utilise business strategies, manage cash flow and interpret balance sheets to achieve business objectives, such as revenue maximisation and I can now comprehend the importance of interpreting data and decision-making and how it impacts businesses. As a result of our team co-ordinated approach, we managed to successfully reach the semi-finals.…
My personal experience with FFA is all post high school. During college I discovered the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences when I took AGTM 100 as a career exploration course and I moved into CALS forever after that. In my classes most of my peers are FFA alumni and each member that I have met has shared proudly their memories of FFA. I could not help but noticing with each experience that was shared with me all of the amazing opportunities the program gave them. I couldn’t believe all of the things that they had gotten to learn in high school, to be honest I am a little jealous.…
Personal Statement My professional goal is to become a Firefighter. Achieving this profession, I want to show that I can serve everyone who looked up to me because I think that will make me a true firefighter. I will try my best to reach my goal because I too want to serve our nation. If I earn my diploma at Honoka’a High & Intermediate School, I would go to college, graduate from college and I would join the Firefighter Department.…
What is the greatest gift you can give someone? The answer: knowledge. With this, new avenues are explored and ideas are challenged. I mention this because, this is what the YWCA has and continues to do. Their mission is solely dedicated to changing and saving lives they come in contact with.…
As a young adult coming from a lurid environment, I was obligated to cope with physical and mental abuse until the age of fifteen. It was then when I abruptly discovered myself abandoned and homeless. Still a child, I was doubtful of my own capabilities. I did not know what to do or where to go, so I concentrated on the one thing that I knew I was moderately good at school work. After living an increasingly nomadic lifestyle, I was coaxed to apply for several universities by my high school’s novice college advisor.…
Being able to attend a liberal arts is not only a privilege, but also a blessing. I might not know the reason why yet, but God has brought me to study at Hope College for a certain purpose. Before choosing what college to go to, I went to adoration and I prayed long and hard. I asked God to give me a sign as to which school I should attend, and after adoration I had made up my mind.…
As a person, I want to have a career that betters others lives. Specifically, ever since I was a young kid, I wanted to grow up to work in the medical field. Growing up, I had relatives who worked in various types of medical professions. At the dinner table, I would hear talk of how they impacted patients' lives and how the patients enriched their life in return. This created in me or even strengthened, the already existing, the want to help people.…
With the help of a non profit organization I was able take part in my community and gained experiences. It was at the end of my freshman year when I first joined a program called YouthCARE. It helped me get through high school and motivate me to try out a lot of things from community service to improving my social skills. This program helps a diverse group of teen from the twin cities to help transit youth to adulthood. There are a lot of youths who are not involved in anything and locked themselves up for many reasons.…
Bzzzzzzzzz! “Ugh!” I begrudgingly mutter to myself as I roll over to shut off the cacophony coming from my alarm clock. I trudge into the bathroom to take a shower where I see a despondent face staring back at me in the mirror. Before I know it I am sitting in traffic on my 2 hour and 15 minute commute to my office when BANG!…
When I was a little girl and was growing up, I wanted to be so many things. I went from wanting to be a teacher, to a dentist and then to a Doctor. When I finally reached high school, I realized my ultimate goal was that I wanted to help people. Signing up for my major in college, I wondered if I was making the right decision. Is being a nurse what I really wanted to do?…
Glorifying the Lord! That is the main objective in my life. Following, trusting and listening to our Lord, Jesus Christ, is how I will accomplish this amazing gift of grace and mercy that I have been given as an adopted daughter of the Lord. I have been called to do something amazing in my life, not sure how it will all play out, but returning to college to reach a higher level of education is the path He has for me. I’m trusting God to reveal blessings and show me what I can do for Him with this newly discovered knowledge.…
