The amniotic fluid volume is normal, and the cervix is long and closed with no evidence of membrane funneling. A complete fetal anatomical survey was performed, and no major/minor malformations were noted at this time within the resolution of the…
Spending two and half hours in each classroom, I learned a great deal about early childhood education from ages birth through eight, and the effort and skills that it takes to create a stimulating learning environment. For my infant, toddler, and preschool observations, I spent my hours at the CCC Childcare Center located in our college while for my kindergarten, 1st grade, 2nd grade observations, I spent my time at Casey Park Elementary School. During my observations at the CCC Childcare Center, I learned plenty about the methods and practices that go into early education before primary grades. The preschool classroom really stood out to me because the centers in the classroom were very open ended and filled with lots of manipulative for…
Many parents look back on the day their first child was born, and consider it to be the greatest day of their life. The moments shortly after labor seem subtle and all worth it for brief moment; but it is just the beginning to the journey of a long parenthood. So, what about the nine months before labor that makes the journey so excruciating for a couple? For a woman, it might be the pain that comes with a growing baby inside of them, or the immense amount of hormonal spikes they endure. During the long journey a couple takes on many obstacles throughout the three trimesters, but few people actually shed any light on the man’s role during a pregnancy.…
Observational Study of Infant and Caregiver An observational study is a form of naturalistic observation, “in which some naturally occurring behavior is observed without intervention in the situation” (Feldman, R.S., 2015, p. 27). On September 26th, 2016, an observer secretly watched a young, African American mother and her nine month old, female infant at the chain store BuyBuyBaby in Central Park, Fredericksburg, Virginia. For about an hour, from 15:00 to 16:00, the observer followed this mother and child throughout the store.…
An individual’s growth is characterized by various developmental categories including physical appearance, regulation of emotions, cognitive and language abilities. Often the development is thought to be differentiated by the numerous cultures globally yet in the documentary Babies directed by Thomas Balmès illustrates the similarities among all four countries he documents. As one infant (Ponijao) is from Namibia his culture is largely different in comparison to the baby (Hatti) from the United States of America. However, although the socialization differs immensely, the documentary illustrates the similar timeline that all four babies develop (Chabat & Balmès, 2010). Physically it becomes evident of similarities in growth patterns, and the advancement of motor skills.…
Have you ever heard of Wolf -Hirschhorn syndrome? Odds are you haven’t, considering that only around 1 out of 50,000 children have it. This rare condition may seem like it is unimportant and small, but people who have it may suffer from Delayed growth, Seizures, Intellectual disability, and Muscle weakness. Since there is no cure this drastically affects the person until the end of their life. During pregnancy while undergoing routine checkups in the first trimester a doctor can diagnose someone’s baby with this strange condition.…
The most significant figure of a newborn child is its’ mother. The baby not only relies on its mother for nutrition, care and affection, but also for an emotional connection. This unique bond between mother and child is essential for a normal healthy…
“Mommy, how are babies made?” Every person has a different response when a little kid asks where babies come from. The stork is the most common story, and some parents even say they bought the kit at Walmart and assembled it. Some cultures believe the baby was found in a cabbage patch or that the stars are just babies looking down, waiting to find their place on earth. In various cases, the parents will simply explain how the baby started growing inside mommy and that you have to wait nine months to see it like everyone else.…
Child Observation Report Two For the Life-Span Development course at Dordt College, a child with his parents and grandparents were observed and recorded for the purpose of students to study the actions of the child. Assessment Summary #2 – T.J. T.J. is a very interesting four year old, that I have had the privilege of being able to continue to observe him. He likes to play cars and rough house with his buddies especially on the playground. T.J. has had ups and down throughout my observation period at the child development center. The second half of the observations I have noticed that T.J. has at times secluded himself from interacting with his fellow classmates. In other aspects of development he has progressed such as in speaking and vocabulary since the start of me observing him.…
Fetal Development Introduction Fetal development is the growth and maturation of the fetus in utero (Fetal Developmet, 2009). It is divided into three periods: the zygote period, the embryonic period, and the fetal period. In the short span of two-hundred and sixty-six days a single fertilized cell develops into a human newborn infant (Figure 1). Interest has increased in the prenatal period as a staging period for well-being and disease in later life.…
Prenatal Care during Pregnancy to Reduce Birth Risks Unintentional or unplanned pregnancies are a major health concern linked to increased risks of harmful behaviors, abortions, negative social and birth outcomes (Feldman, 2012). According to Moeller, Veseau, and Carr while the rates of pregnancy and childbirth among adolescents under the age of 20 in the United States have fallen since 1990 it is not expected to disappear entirely and remains a national problem (2007). Pregnancy in adolescence has been connected to a variety of unfavorable maternal and infant outcomes. Health risks for teens and their infants include low birth weight, risk of prematurity, developmental delays, and poor prenatal weight gain.…
