Based on this quote, I think that one of reasons is cleanliness that causes fear of intimacy. Anton Chigurh does not want to close the things that he thinks are dirty; he thinks himself very different from others. In other words, he thinks that he is much more “clean” than others are. This is why later on he thinks that he can be a judge from god to make decision whether or not people die. The killer generally in our mind must be bedraggled, no shower for month. However, Anton’s hair is neat; clothes are clean. He does not look like killer. From the movie, we can see his third shot at the motel Mexicans due to in a close distance. He pulled the shower curtain to prevent from spilling blood; he shot the killer Carson in a hotel after the blood flows to Eagles’ feet on the ground. He did not socialize with normal people to talk about the goals to achieve, such as money, better life, love, and so on. He simply lived in this world; he just followed his feeling or his own rule to live in this world. That is why he can take the risk to kill people repeatedly; to him, that is not taking risk at all. According to the book, “this desire not to feel, desire to insulate ourselves from life in order to insulate ourselves from pain, is most common form of death work” (Tyson 26).
