In the novel “Parable of the Sower”, Octavia E. Butler demonstrates that family plays a big role when dealing with survival. Although all these families were living in poverty, many were still able to navigate through life because of the strong family connection they kept throughout this rough period. Lauren and her family lived on the outskirts of Los Angeles in a safe, private community where everyone knew everything about each other. To every one’s dismay; Stacy the mother of Lexy, was so caught up about the loss of her daughter that she never informed her husband about the situation. After finally getting in touch with her husband Mark, she informed him of the terrible news. He immediately got in the search car with Stacy and they looked for hours. Her father Mark was the sweetest most loving father, and he cared about his little girl Lexy more than anything in the world. He was doing every thing in his power not to go crazy knowing his sweet girl was in danger. This family was determined to never give up until they have their little sweet girl in their arms again. After many, many hours of searching; finally at 11:00 at night, they heard some promising news. The police had discovered the kidnappers address and patrol cars rapidly reached the destination of the kidnapper Charles’ house. They saw his van parked outside the house, with the identical license plate number on the back of the vehicle.
