FCCI Insurance Company, originally a monoline workers’ compensation carrier, was established in Sarasota, Florida in 1959. FCCI now insures policyholders in multiple commercial lines in 20 different states and the District of Colombia. The company takes pride in its ability to mature agency relationships, provide incredible customer service, and maintain a local presence in each represented territory with field employees. Company executives emphasize the importance of employee investments and the presence of a strong, unique corporate culture over profits. As a regional company, FCCI has the ability to expand its territory and capture more market share in states that are requested by contracted agents. I also rotated with each department and learned the different aspects of an insurance company’s business practices. An intern switch with a local insurance agency exposed me to the agency side of business and departmental rotations explained their daily operations and organizational goals. Shadowing various employees within the FCCI insurance company and the Arthur J. Gallagher agency provided me with a detailed view of each job description, daily activities, and individual outlined goals. I worked in each FCCI online system and studied accounts to understand the underwriting process and documentation practices; each account produced different outcomes and underwriter and agent correspondence detailed each step of the underwriting process. During my tenure, I contributed to the company by cleaning out old reviews and concluding account outcomes, both of which have years in backed up or incomplete data.
