Every kid in middle school should be allowed to have their phones with them. Kids should have phones with them for many reasons. For example, phones could help with school tools, they could be important in case of an emergency, and it teaches them responsibility. In my opinion, they help a ton when it comes to a school day for middle school students. First, kids are getting into more complex skills, and if they forget a certain tool, they can use their phone. For example, if a kid forgets his or her calculator for math class, he can use his phone instead. Also, if your school internet goes down or your computer is not working, then you can use your phone to do your work. Acoording to lovetoknow.com by Cheryl Cirelli, “Smartphones have programs that are similar to what is found in a laptop or desktop computer.” This proves that you can use your phone in case your computer goes down because they have similar programs. Many kids also forget to do homework, and they can finish it on their phone at lunch, recess, or study hall. “Children are also responsible for their individual cell phone and parents can set rules about misplacing it or breaking it,” says Partselect.com. This means that when kids have their phones on them, they are responsible for them. If they lose it, it will teach them to be more careful. Kwikboost.com wrote, “Students know they shouldn’t use their cell phones in school to play Angry Birds, or listen to music, or text their friends.” Therefore, kids know that they can’t go on any apps or irrelevant things on their phones, or they will be taken away. They need to be responsible with it, or they will get punished. So if you think about it, having phones in school can teach valuable lessons. And in my experience, a lot of kids can use the lessons that phones in school can

The central idea of the article “Should children get to have cellphones in elementary school?,” written by Donna St. George discusses the highs and lows of having a cellphone in Elementary school. In fact, it is stated how "It's definitely a trend we're seeing at younger levels – being allowed to bring cellphones on campus," (St. George, paragraph 6). Although this might not be a good thing it is a big trend and we do see cellphones everywhere, for younger kids and even some older ones it could be a temptation for cellphones to be on campus. Kids are always asking to get on there phone for school resources, and then are found on social media, which leads to cyberbullying, and a non-learning environment. Teacher Joni Siani explains it this way: “You’ll get kids saying, i’ll look something up for english, and while i’m here let me quickly check my instagram or twitter feed ( which most students tend to do).” Sure phones can be used for an english assignment, or just to use for research in school, but we can prevent this from happening by putting away phones, or even blocking websites. Therefore if phones are taken away during school hours, then this will help prevent less cyberbullying, and a better learning learning…

Many kids have been caught cheating on tests through the internet or texting back and forth between friends. This is making a great controversy in schools about forcing students to leave their phones in their lockers. Other schools, though, accept cell phones in school and even use them in the curriculum.
