In this assignment I will be explaining and analysing what different government do to help and support their city/country and how they link together such as local, regional and National. Throughout I will be stating how this affects tourism and will be giving examples. Finally I will be explaining how local and national economic policy have an effect on the travel and tourism industry directly and indirectly and will be discussing political changes on my selected destination which will be Paris and how this has had an extreme change on Tourism.
Local Government
Local governments are based in a particular town, city or country where the government have to work together to make their town become a better place. The Local government are made up of councils who are voted by the public in elections to deliver services. The Local Government have responsibility for social and environment well-being and responsibility for their economic of their area where they are taking in feedback from the people living in their town and improving in the best way. The Local Government provide a variety of services through their staff or from outside organisations. Council services are mandatory which means they have to do what they are told as it is a duty to do so by law. Local Governments can affect you daily as the government are always changing things within their town which may be beneficial for some people and not so beneficial for the others. A Regional government only has control of their specific small area to improve political and economic issues where needed. They have the advantage to stay close to the people in their town and being responsive to their needs while planning, developing and delivering good services. -Any Emergency measures National Government National Government manages the whole country. The policy programmes in the UK cover - National Government structure and Policy - The role of Visit Britain - The role of Scottish, welsh and Irish Tourist Boards - The role of the Regional Development Agency - The role of Partners for England The Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) looks after the UK’s Tourism Industry, Their role is to be “Responsible for supporting the Tourism Industry at National Level” and to also promote and develop Tourism around the UK. National Government have responsibilities such as: -The Arts -Broadcasting -Heritage -The Press -National Lottery -Tourism -Cultural Objects European Union Government The Government of the European Union are different from other organisations and states as they are unique. The European Union is similar to confederation as they are capable of making law within their countries. The EU laws override the National laws however they are restricted from making laws outside their remit. The President of the EU Government ‘Donald Tusk’ is responsible for making a difference and moving forward the work of institution which is the highest political body of EU. Government Sponsored Bodies Government sponsored Bodies such as National Tourist Boards and visit Britain are mainly for the development of Tourism through different aspects to be able to help promote the Tourism Industry and to create new trends and services. These are the Government bodies which can give precise and accurate information about any destination or attractions to local Tourists as well as to International Tourists. International Agencies International agencies are an organisation funded by the national government for economic co-operation and development. For e.g.- The ‘United Nations’ which are an intergovernmental organisation who support international co-operation. Their job is to protect the environment, provide humanity aid, make sure the country is at peace and everyone is secure, supporting human rights, natural disaster and promoting social and economic development.
