Hush Movie Analysis

Superior Essays
Hush is a horror movie about a woman named Madison Young. Maddie is a mute author, who temporarily lost her hearing and her speaking ability when she contracted bacterial meningitis when she was 13. She ended up losing both her hearing and her speaking ability after she had a surgery that went wrong. Due to Maddie’s disabilities, Hush presents an emphasis on isolation and the importance of existential awareness that other horror movies fail to provide. Hush is different because most of the movie there isn't much noise and dialogue, especially when we’re in Maddie’s point of view. "To represent Maddie's world, various ambient sounds were used, such as the sound of ultrasound machines. Flanagan did not want to use pure silence for these scenes, as he still felt it would make …show more content…
There are some iconic ones like zombies, possessed things/spirits, abandoned place, evil kids/dolls, science gone bad, none or bad cell service, etc. Hush does have some of these classic horror movie cliques like Maddie trips a couple times, the serial killer cuts off the electricity and takes her phone, which is kind of like no service, Maddie’s house is in the middle of nowhere woods. Maddie also fends for herself while being deaf, and living alone. She starts to get bold instead of scared. unlike most of the girls in other horror movies, they usually die, somehow end up living to see the end of the movie, they usually fall and trip especially while they’re running. Hush as great reviews, like a tweet from Steven King, and of course there are some didn’t like it.
Maddie lives isolated in the woods with her cat and her neighbors; Sarah and her boyfriend, John. Sarah comes to visit, to talk about Maddie’s book; Maddie can lip read. Maddie explains “writer’s brain”, how she entertains all endings to stories in her head. Maddie has a smoke alarm that not only flashes bright, blinding, white light, the alarm is so loud it

I think the film Freaks did a good job to help people understand disabilities. All the disabled actors in the film were portrayed well and their characters were deep with intelligence and thought. Also, the ways the disabled actors interacted with each other showed that they did not think a disability defined a person. All the disabled actors in the film were show as good people. The main antagonist of the film was one of the few non-disabled characters in the whole movie.…

Jennifer Kent's film about the horrors of parenting has no harbinger to announce to Amelia (Essie Davis) that her world will soon be upended; she has to read the book herself to find out. Amelia is severely sleep-deprived and hopes that reading a mysterious pop-up book will put Samuel (Noah Wiseman) to sleep. The first few pages start off pretty unassuming--a character with a silly name like the Babadook lends itself to a child's story--but the warning comes quickly enough. The shy, little silhouette that accompanies the line "A friend of you and me" becomes a towering figure looms over a small drawing that looks a lot like Amelia. Each illustration is designed to lurk in the darkness, and Jennifer Kent builds on the dread by obscuring more…

I would like to start off by saying you did a great job giving the readers feedback on how you felt about Jake Gyllenhaal's performance in Donnie Darko. I was intrigued to know that not only you were able tell the readers how you felt about the plot of the film, but you were able talk about an actor’s performance. It was interesting that you added in a fact about the director of the film, “ the 2001 dark/fantasy movie film was Richard kelly’s first movie”. Also, it would be great to add a in text-citation for it. One other thing, in the last paragraph where you’re talking about the ending of the film.…

Screenplay Critique #2 When you imagine different films in different genres, there are a whole list of different assumptions that audiences expect from each genre. Based on the fast scene changes of the script, it’s evident that The Departed is a crime drama action film. Since it’s an action film, there are also not many long winded character monologues and all of the characters have short dialogue to keep up with the faster pace of the film and keep the audience engaged. The action starts from the beginning of the selection of the script--in this excerpt, the catalytic event is when Billy speaks to Costello and begins to build his relationship with him.…

After watching the movie “Sicko” by Michael Moore and reading Understanding American Politics by Stephen Brooks I seem to be baffled about what a lot of foreigners are when referring to American politics and society. One being, our government and how hypocritical they are for instance, The Medicare Prescription Drug Improvement And Modernization Act passed in 2003, In “Sicko”, the legislation allowed drug companies the freedom to charge what they deemed fit. Looking at it from every angle possible still would not explain how that was to benefit anyone but, the drug industry. Furthermore, how is it that America is on the other side when it comes to health care and social programs, In “Sicko” countries: Canada, France, Britain, and Cuba have…

The 1995 movie Clueless directed and written by Amy Heckerling is a typical comical coming of age teenage movie. Following a social dominant and extravagant teenage girl named Cher Horowitz, ironically, the movie displays the effects of her “social project” with Tai Fraser. Through the lens of this social project, the themes of perceptions of desire attributes and the dominant stereotypical culture in high school are explored. With the use of the costumes, characters, and script, Heckerling comments on the significance of fashion and social relations in high school.…
