1. What did you plan to learn or do? (What was your exhibit goal?) My goal was to find a painting I liked and make it my own. I also wanted to improve my shading skills.
2. What steps did you take to learn or do this?
I went to a workshop. At that workshop we talked about copyright 101. Afterwards we got to paint a picture. The material was provided. I used a canvas that was an 8X10. I found a picture that I liked. I lightly drew it out. I got my paint and started painting. The background was pink. I changed it to blue so I wasn’t copyrighting. The first color was a blue, but I didn’t have to add and whites to change. Next, I mixed a little white with a lot of blue to make it a little lighter color blue. Next, I painted the next strip a little light blue by adding white. For the next strip I added even more white to make it an even lighter color of blue. Then I drew the white horizon line and the sun. Then I drew the ocean by doing the opposite for white for the sky. Next, I mixed a light blue and painted that strip. Next, I made the next strip darker by adding a little blue to it. The next I strip I painted I added even more blue to make it darker then I painted the last strip by adding a little bit more blue. Then I mixed green and black to het a dark green for the grass. Then I painted vertical strips with that same color and put a black line in between them to look like a fence. Then I painted the palm trees black. Then I painted a black circle to represent the center of the tree. Next, I painted the leaves black and used upward strokes to make it more realistic. Next, I added detail by painting the stripes under the sun to make it look like the sun is reflecting on the ocean. Next, I added the black birds flying off into the sunset. Next I fixed the palm tree because they were to wide, id did this by painting a light blue over a part of them. Then I mixed black and blue for the clouds. Next, I painted the clouds. Finally, I signed my work. What were the …show more content…
Design elements are line, shape, form, color, and texture. Art principles are balance, proportion, rhythm, emphasis, and unity. Information on elements and principles of design for visual art can be found at: http://www.extension.iastate.edu/Publications/4H634.pdf
Lines: I used curved lines for the tree because that is what palm tree are like. I used straight lines for the different color of strips to show the shading. I used straight lines for the horizon line to show the horizon. I used diagonal lines for the leaves. I used a straight line for the middle part of the leaf. I used straight scattered lines for the reflection. I used curved lines for the birds wing. I used vertical lines on the bottom of the paining to represent fence posts. I used horizontal lines for the fence wire.
Shape: I used a half of circle to show the sun setting. I used circles for the center of the palm
