The characteristic of selfishness is shown very often in Abby. Abby is very selfish when it comes to John Proctor. This trait is clearly visible when she is having conversations with him. When Abby was having a conversation with John, she states, “’You loved me, John Proctor, and whatever sin it is, you love me yet! John, pity me, pity me!’”(Miller 25). When Abby says this she is telling John that he should leave his family for her. This is extremely selfish because John has two kids and a wife to take care and Abby is telling him to ditch them and stay with her. She is only thinking of herself and not thinking about John’s, Elizabeth and their two kid’s lives, and how they would be affected.
