Standard s#1-3 The Learner and Learning Learner Development, Learning Differences, and Learning Environments- Over the course of this year I have learned much about learner development and how my personal orientation of the classroom and management affect it directly. Through working on my personal philosophy I learned things that I would never have considered, like that humorous important in the classroom, but sarcasm can be detrimental to a child. Student management starts with considered seating charts and ends with detailed management plans on classroom expectations, as well as crises and action plans. Being prepared for emergencies and behavioral problems is far easier when you have a plan. I believe I am proficient in this area. This course has been my first clinical class since I started my degree, so all of what I read and learned can be used everyday. Managing how students interact with each other in places like the halls will communicate an atmosphere of solidarity in the school. The school, as an enclosing supervision, will oversee all specific classroom managements. Concerning observations of poor behavior in areas like the halls or cafeteria, not acting is just as damaging as ignorance or enabling. Violence or abuse that is unreported will not effectively support school-wide management. Excuses like, “He’s not my student,” “I’ll keep a low profile,” or, “It’s none of my business,” is not promoting the solidarity in the school. Consistency in discipline is the only kind of discipline. Without teachers working together and acting as a cooperative administration, discipline would be a meaningless lash when it concerns correction of unfavorable behavior.
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act has been protecting students since its conception in 1990 and officially a U.S. act signed in by George H. W. Bush. This act helps teacher act out of a substantiated basis when it comes to administering discipline to those with special needs or disabilities. Legislation like this is exactly how the United States is moving forward in education that is accessible and prepared for
