Nursing Ethics
Description When I was working as an RN in Nepal, I had a patient who was 16yrs old, and it was her third time to have an abortion. She came alone to the clinic looking scared, worried and requested me not to disclose her name. I asked her if she has anyone with her and she replied no. It helped me to fight with my own values and beliefs. I realized that as a nurse, I shouldn't be judging my patient or giving her my point of view as this may lower her self esteem and she won't be able to trust us. I treated my patient's right to make decisions and dignity with respect and courtesy. The client's values and decisions are influenced by a variety of factors such as family support, previous experience with health care situations, the meaning of illness to the person and her personal goals (Tabrizi, 2003). I provided safe, considerate, and ethical care regardless of her cultural, psychological and spiritual needs respected.
