I currently work in a daycare in Jamaica Plains. It is a catholic charity site and we have children from ages three months to four years of age. Some children have special needs and they have additional supports that come in from other agencies that provide the additional support that they need to succeed. For this paper, I observed the infant classroom. The infant room is licensed for seven children. There are usually three teachers that run the classroom. The classroom is set up with furniture and toys that support the children and their development across the board. The room consists of students that range from the ages of four months to 1.5 years.

There are different things on the wall that are at the children’s level that they can access. These include educational posters and different sensory boards. Once you exit the sleep area, you are at the far end of the classroom where the circle time rug is located. The rug is surrounded with a low shelf that contains toys and two carpeted shelves that the all the children can see above, even when sitting. Inside these shelves, there are different types of toys and dolls. The area is made into a square around the rug which is against the wall. There is a little opening where the furniture is so that the children can get in and out of the area. Most of the kids are walking and crawling so they explore more when they are able to be around the whole room. Once you exit that area, you encounter another shelf at the children's height that has toys that they play with. If you are on the back wall looking towards the exit and changing table, you will see the eating area. There are four high chairs and very low chair for the children that are a year or older.
