Family can mean many things. Whether it’s your closest friends, family, family friends etc. My definition of family is any blood relative or friend that you are very close to, that you protect and support, and that you would do anything for (not all blood relatives are considered in my family depending on my relationship with them or if I have met them before and how close we are). My definition if family applies to my own family very well. I have many family members that I call aunt and uncle, for example, but I do not necessarily consider them as part of the family. I also call some people aunt and uncle, for example my aunt Renee, who is not part of the family but she has been dating my uncle for so long, I consider her my aunt. I also consider

As described in Lamanna & Reidman (2014) and lecture noted from Hooper (2016), this theory is for families that like to maximize rewards and minimize costs. It also focuses on the resources that one brings into the relationship. This theory applies to my family in a handful of different ways. As shown in the genogram, on my father’s side, when a family member finds a relationship with good rewards, such as fertility, that reward is not taken for granted. With the reward of fertility there is room to create a large family. This later on pays off with great benefits when the children are older. They are there to take care of you (the parent) and make sure you are well. Another benefit of having such a large family is that an income is always available. There is a low possibility that everyone is going to be unemployed at once. When it comes to family power, my grandmother (on my father’s side) is the authoritative figure that everyone looks up to. She holds the most power. If my grandmother doesn’t like something or someone, it is expected for member of the family to feel the same way. If my grandmother says “jump”, everyone will say “how high”. No one usually defies her. If you are in a relationship and my grandmother does not believe they are bringing enough rewards to the table such as having a car, a good education, a job, etc., she will let you as well as everyone know that they are not suited for you.
