James Gatz was a great, great man. An honest man. He was not only a wonderful neighbour, but he was a dear friend. Many admired the man who hosted these extravagant parties, however not many of you knew the real Gatsby. He was self-made, generous, driven and in love. I admired Jay for his hope and aspirations.
Jay was born into a town in West Dakota. As the son of Henry Gatz, he rose out of poverty with his eyes set on the American Dream. Due the patronage of Dan Cody, Jay seized the opportunity to reinvent himself into a desirable, hard working and self-sufficient man. Subsequently, Jay became a military officer and also received an education from Oxford. Before leaving to fight in WW1, Jay met my cousin, Daisy. She was the most beautiful woman his eyes had ever seen and he immediately fell in love.

Now that Jay has passed; I can only dream of becoming the man he was. We can all learn from the life of Jay Gatsby. Wealth is a wonderful thing however it does not guarantee love and happiness.
I don't know if I am the right person to be delivering this eulogy as I have not known Jay for a long time. His life was such a blur to me, but his mysterious façade did not blind me of his countless attributes. His kindness, determination, and generosity were always evident whenever he was around.
As I looked out of my window at night, I could see Gatsby with his arms outstretched towards the green light on Daisy's dock. Jay's hope and determination remained undimmed throughout the years after Daisy's marriage with Tom Buchanan. Jay, as my mentor, instilled in me a belief that anything is possible. Gatsby was my burning light across the dock who raised my spirits and gave me boundless
