Examples Of Dehumanization In Night By Elie Wiesel

“To forget a holocaust is is to kill twice” (Elie Wiesel). “Night” is a book published in in 1956, and written by Elie Wiesel.It is about his and his fathers experience in the Nazi German concentration camps. Throughout “Night” one of the majors themes was the idea of dehumanization These moments in the story are important because they show how horribly the Jewish people were being treated by the Germans. One example of dehumanization in the book is when the Germans used Jewish babies as target practice. The germans would dig holes and place jewish people in front of the hole and slit their throat and shot their children. “Babies were thrown in the air and the machine gunners used them as targets” (5). This show how cruel the germans were to Jewish people. They would kill the adults and take the babies and use the to get better aim. That’s just not right in my eyes and very disrespectful. Elie’s father just wanted to go to the bathroom and the guard didn’t even allow that. “Excuse me, can you tell me where the lavatories are? . . . . Then as if he had suddenly woken up from a heavy dose he dealt my father such a clout that he fell to the ground, crawling back to his place on all fours” (29). This shows how much the guards hated jewish people. Elie’s father got hit on the head for asking the guard politely were the bathrooms were.The guard shouldn't of have hit him he should of just pointed to where the bathhrooms were at.
