• Challenging Behavior: Physical Aggression
• Operational Definition: When Tim doesn’t get his way or tries to get someone’s attention, he will often use physical aggression (hit, pull hair, spit) to meet his needs.
3. Hypothesis
• Tim is displaying physically aggressive behavior to get attention from his peers.
4. Identified Target Behavior & Operational Definition
• Target Behavior: Ask to Play
• Operational Definition: When Tim wants to get another child’s attention, he will approach the child face-to-face and then use words to ask to play.
5. Method for Communicating Information to Parents
• I will place a note in Tim’s “Take-Home Folder” each night to communicate his behavior …show more content…
If this happens, students will learn to say, “Ok. Maybe some other time.” After this discussion, students will get a chance to role-play and practice these skills with one another. They will break off into partners and take turns appropriately asking one another to play. By handling the situation in this way, all students will have a chance to practice this important skill, and Tim won’t feel “singled out.”
8. 1 Reinforce Strategy
• As I walk around and engage with the students during free play, I will provide Tim with immediate verbal praise when I hear him asking others to play in an appropriate way. Also, I will be reducing the amount of attention I give Tim when he is physically aggressive. By praising Tim for asking to play and ignoring the physical aggression, Tim’s behavior will begin to improve.

1. At the beginning of circle time, I will teach my students specific phrases to use when asking someone to play and how to respond if that person says no.
2. After giving this information, I will ask for 2 volunteers from the class.
3. These students will then model the appropriate “conversation” for the rest of their peers to see.
4. After that, students will find a partner and practice the phrases I have provided them with.
5. Once students have had a chance to go back and forth a few times, we will come back together as a whole class and review.
Reinforce:
Verbal Praise; Reduce Attention Given When Challenging Behavior Occurs • The paras in the room will also be encouraged to provide this reinforcement for Tim whenever they see him asking to play appropriately. 1. During free play time, I will be walking around the room to the various play stations to check on the children.
2. When I see Tim ask to play appropriately, I will immediately give him verbal praise to reinforce this positive behavior.
3. If I see Tim demonstrating the challenging behavior, I will reduce the amount of attention I give
