Peaceful resistance can be seen though protests, petitions, writing your congressman, not obeying the law, etc(Thoreau). The application of peaceful resistance can be seen several times since the organization of the United States government since the official ratification of the United States constitution.

This protest has also led over 50 arrests. This example of civil disobedience has not made a direct impact on wages however several protests in coalition have convinced the corporate side of Walmart to raise wages.
All of these examples both historic and modern have many things in common. They all have reasons and motives, agendas and they tend to lead to arrest. It also tends to take a coalition of acts of peaceful resistance to pull an agenda through. This can be seen in the civil rights movements where it was not one protest that led to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 but several protests and acts of rebellion(archives.gov).
In conclusion, peaceful resistance is positive for society because a coalition of them can lead to major change. This can be seen with Walmart protests, several acts of rebellion during the civil rights movement and the keystone pipeline
