Reevaluating the Geneva Convention
The Geneva Convention originated in the year 1864, designing the main principals of the committee, and only 16 states were represented. That was only the first successful conference as the quickly gained reorganization. They hosted many well-known conferences like the convention in 1907, which talked about adapting the principles of the convention on the wounded and sick, and the convention of 1929 that discussed the rights of prisoners of war. Today the convention has 196 states. The more recent problems are the terrorist attacks on the World trade Center on September 11,2001 where terrorists from Al- Qaeda flew two planes into the twin tower. Thousands of people died and conflict quickly arose. The Geneva Convention was involved, because many people were questioning the rights given to the signers of the Geneva Convention. Now another problem is brewing in the Middle East that have some major countries involved. The refugees who are fleeing the war from the Middle East to go to peaceful Europe. Countries that are the violators of the code are America, Great Britain, and Denmark. These countries should be helping, yet they are starting camps that have caused deaths. City streets in Baghdad and Basra are full of riots. All these people only want one thing, opportunities and freedom for their youth, yet the country is not providing that. Even bombs’ constantly being dropped doesn’t keep the protesters away. Regarding this struggle with freedom many people are fleeing to stronger countries such as France and Italy, but those countries cannot hold, because of the constant overflow of refugees. Camps such as Camp Bucca operated by the United States hold up to 18,00 deputies who haven’t even done anything. This is breaking the Geneva Convention from 1929 from the rights of prisoners of war. The United States is just one of the many countries that is breaking Codes just to destroy this already fragile country. This is not a large country and is surrounded by countries constantly at conflict with each other. There are always new events and groups posing new threats to the Iraqi. Currently the Iraqis are still trying to deal with these problems such as how to deal with the Countries breaking the Geneva Convention. ISIS …show more content…
As a punishment for this, Iraq’s government can file for economic sanctions against the United States of America. The economic sanction for Iraq is an estimated 16.9 million dollars. That money is enough to month rebuild the Iraq military in a desire to defeat ISIS. The Iraq government can also chose to feed the thousand of people who are going hungry. In addition to that, the United States relies on Iraq for certain oils. If Iraq stopped exporting those oils it would strongly shift the United States economy for the worse. Gas and other fuel products prices will shoot up. Also, Iraq has the largest sulfur reserve and gives many exports to the United States. By taking away sulfur, less American medicine discoveries would occur, which would put America behind of some of it’s main competitors such as Great Britain and France. That would mean America could potentially move down the ladder on the most powerful nations (currently it is ranked number
