Rationale
Animal experimentation refers to the use of living animals for the purpose of research into biological structures that seek for examining the effectiveness of pharmaceutical products, or testing the safety of consumer products such as cosmetics. Humans accept the necessity for animal experimentation to deal with unpredictable challenges, and therefore a wide range of animal species have been used to guarantee the accumulative developments in the field of science. However, proponents of such research pay no attention to the quality of animals’ life, nor to the potential of wildlife extinction. Regardless of the short-term and long-term effects on animals, the number of procedures is persistently increasing to satisfy humans’ self-interest. …show more content…
1.1 Animals should only be experimented when there is no other available option. Testing on animals should not be granted for individual’s pleasure.
1.2 Researchers should be familiar with animals’ normal behavior patterns and minimize pain and distress.
1.3 Researchers should submit detailed proposals before testing animals and the procedures must be designed to minimize the number of animals and deaths.
1.4 The duration of experiments should be limited, so that it is just adequate to achieve the purpose of the experiments.
1.5 Researchers should be responsible to euthanize animals that require such process. This must lead animals to rapid death without pain.
1.6 Animals should put under anesthesia during surgical procedures. The entire process should be monitored and recorded.
1.7 Animals must not be tested for repeated trials. More than one trial will affect the accuracy of results.
To maximize animals’ quality of life in a given circumstance, the facility must be equipped with controllable systems to meet the needs of each
