Many Americans today take the privileges they are given for granted. Rarely do citizens of the United States reflect and truly appreciate how such an unlikely circumstance became a wonderful reality. Americans must understand how such a great nation succeeds despite the odds against it. The United States of America, a nation built on improbable foundations, is able to succeed through uniting people under a common goal, and by being tolerant of different people; this is exemplified through the strong symbolism, persuasive pathos, logical logos, and descriptive diction present in A Quilt of a Country: Out of Many, One?, and Lincoln’s Second Inaugural Address.…

Freedom was won, slavery was abolished, spiritual advancements were made, the United States of America grew in rapid forms, and to top it all of, America became the true powerhouse in war and politics. Thomas Jefferson once said, “I predict future happiness for Americans, if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them.” Although our society is in shambles at the moment, we will prevail because we are Americans.…

Bias reporting in the main stream media has grown into a National phenomenon, especially after the most recent election cycle. There is no middle ground and there are never two sides to any story. The term “fake news” is voiced over and over again by politicians and I can’t help but to agree. Before you dismiss my essay in the assumptions that I am out on a mission to “Make America Great Again”, I believe all parties are equally guilty. Reporting now will have you believe you are either left or right, liberal or conservative.…

It is not what happening to my life or to those around me that effecting me deeply – it is the external forces that I have no control over or the inability for me to make a different to the situation.
