If you follow college sports, it’s likely that you know about this big issue that is paying college athletes. This issue has grown over the years to become more and more important. Many players, fans, coaches, and other important people have spoken about this and taken a side. This is an important issue because college sports are very popular and generate an incredible amount of money annually while, the athletes don’t get any money besides their scholarships. At first, college athletes were regularly recruited and paid to play until the NCAA made the “sanity code” that limited scholarships to tuition and fees (Johnson). Some people think that a free education is a big enough payment for the athletes because college costs a lot of money and a college degree is very important in life. On the other hand, some people believe that athletes should be paid extra money because of how much money is made from college sports because of them. Many people think it’s absolutely necessary to pay college athletes because the current scholarship does not completely cover the full cost of living in college and they’re being used to make a lot of money.
