In the novel, The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie, the symbol of cartoons is going to be discussed throughout the essay. Cartoons are a major part of the book because this symbol helps the main character, Arnold, become more open and willing to express himself in a different way. In this book, Arnold best describes himself when he is drawing. This symbol helps represent the theme to not be afraid to express yourself and be true to who you are.
In the book, Arnold is a shy and funny kid. One of his talents is illustrating cartoons. In one of his cartoons, Arnold sketches a boy that is half Indian and half white boy illustrating the differences between these two people.
