Residual Disabilities:
Gross Motor- Aiden sits alone briefly, but usually uses his arms for support. No trunk rotation was noted, and he is not able to achieve a sitting position independently. In prone, he moves by belly crawling. Occasionally he will attempt to support himself on his hands and knees and rocks back and forth. He raises his head when in prone on extended arms, but has weak neck extensors and a lack of motivation to maintain the position. Rolling has been observed when Aiden hears his mother’s voice. He attempts to follow the sound, resulting in spontaneous rolling.
Fine Motor- Aiden’s skills are in the 8-9 month range, due to resistance to tactile exploration and his visual impairment. He does not reach for objects by using sound location.
Oral Motor/Feeding – Aiden’s skills are in the 9 to 11 month range. He is able to chew and take food off a spoon or finger feed himself using a raking grasp. He refuses to try new foods and mealtime is often unpleasant.
Play Skills – Aiden typically engages in solitary play. He smiles when he hears familiar voices or when he is held by or played with by his mother, father or grandmother. He often cries when his siblings attempt to play with or engage with him. He frequently engages in self-stimulatory behaviors such as eye poking, rocking, and hand flapping. Sensory – Aiden does not enjoy rough-housing activities, and cries when moved unexpectedly. He enjoys being rocked, but does not like being held firmly or cuddled. Aiden is orally defensive and does not readily mouth objects. He is resistive to tactile exploration and cries if his hands are put in messy or soft textures. The caregivers and OTA will discuss the goals, activity and the benefits of messy play. While the caregivers and OTA are speaking, Aiden will be eating and playing with the puffs. After the discussion, the therapist will allow Aiden to get comfortable with the pudding by smelling, seeing, and eventually touching. Then the therapist will spoon the pudding on the tray and sprinkle the food puffs onto it motivating him to play with it. The OTA will encourage him to play with it for 5 minutes to work towards his STG for that treatment session. A possible setting constraint is if his siblings are there creating distraction and getting
