First, treating a patient as a whole person and not just an illness. It is said laughter is the best medicine. It has long lasting effects and no side effects. The idea for most doctors is to treat an illness forgetting that there is a person attracted to it can be frustrating. When you treat a person as a whole being no matter their outcome, they at least felt human while being treated. There are a few ways that would be considered treating the whole person like calling them by their name, asking them a little about themselves, and helping them maybe finish something that is bothering them. He pulled in the families of the patients and kind of treated them as well. As part of treating the patient as a whole helping the families and teaching them how they can help, was one way to bring the family into the patient’s treatment. He pulled in his college community into helping on a bigger level than just what’s taught in the books. He lived by example and he taught by example. He did not just ask them to help he was right in the middle helping. He wasn’t afraid to step out and be a ground breaker or rule changer. And he drew in the community as a whole buy setting up a clinic where if you are helped you then in returned helped out. When you can give back after being helped out gives you a deeper feeling of gratitude and makes you want to keep
