The Mayflower Compact was different from the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut because the compact was an agreement between the Pilgrims to make sure that the colony was successful. On the other hand, the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut was more of a constitution and they had laws that they had to follow. However, they both showed signs of unity; the Mayflower Compact showed unity by the Pilgrims agreeing to the Compact and the Fundamental Orders of Connecticut also showed unity by people leaving the Massachusetts Colony to go from their own colony and do things that they wanted to do with their colony. Second, the next two documents are the New England Confederation and Penn’s “Plan of Union”, which were written in the late 1600s and early 1700s. In these documents, they wanted to solve the problems that the colonies were having. For example, when the Native Americans started to attack the colonist settlements when they started getting too close for their liking. However, there were some differences; like The New England Confederation was a military agreement between the New England colonies, which said “ The said United Colonies… hereby enter into a firm and perpetual league of friendship and amity for offense and defense, mutual advice… upon all occasions… and for their own mutual safety and welfare.” It caused the New England colonies to work together to fight against a common enemy. On the other hand, Penn’s “Plan of Union” was how he wanted the government in the colonies to be structured and how to protect the colonist rights and other things. It made the colonies work together to make important decisions regarding the colonies and England.
