Electoral College System is the process to elect the president and the vice president of the United States. The Electoral College is consists of 538 electors. The 538 elector is the total of 435 Representatives, 100 senators and 3 electors given to the District of Columbia (*1). However, the candidate whoever able to win majority electoral votes which is 270, he or she get elected for the president of United States of America (*1).
The Electoral Systems translate the citizen vote’s casts in the election into results. Each and every state has distributed with 100 Senators and 435 House of Representatives. Moreover 3 electors have given to the District of Columbia. Senators are the representatives to the senate. Two senators have elected by the citizen voters to represent the state (*2). However, 435 House of Representatives are distributed on the population of the each state. House of Representatives represent a specific area of a state. This area is called congressional district. Citizen voters of the certain congressional district elected the house of representatives of his or her area for a term of two years (*2). Every four years later, during the time of the national election citizen voters select a candidate for president and vice president. The candidate who wins the maximum vote of the states wins the total number of electoral votes of the certain states (*1`). But there is an exception in Nebraska and Maine where the highest voters get the two electoral votes for two senators. However, rest electoral votes are keeping for the congressional district. But rest 48 states have the same system which is the candidate who gets the highest vote; he can achieve the all electoral votes of the certain state. For example, Michigan State has 16 electoral votes which include 2 senators and 14 House of Representatives. The president and vice president …show more content…
I think the Electoral College vote has distributed in disproportionate way. Again, the candidate who wins the highest vote in a state gets the all Electoral votes all of the certain state. This should need to be reformed as well. I think national popular vote is rather logical than congressional district plan. The president of the United States of America represents all the citizen of the country. So I believe he should have elected by the direct votes from the citizen which is popular vote. Right at the moment in the congressional district plan the president has mostly decided by the Electoral votes of big states such as Texas, California, Florida and New York. Because this all four states contains 151 Electoral College votes that means if a candidate win the majority vote in this certain four state the can able to get more than half of the Electoral votes to win the president election. I think this is rather injustice to the other state’s resident. From the history of the American Election we can able to see that sometime the winner of the presidential election get less popular vote but achieve more Electoral vote. For example in election of 2000 Mr. George W. Bush get less popular vote than Mr. Albert Gore Jr. But Mr. George W. Bush won the election and elected the president. (*6) Therefore, I believe that in a democratic system popular consent more important. Moreover, popular vote reflects more popular consent rather the congressional district
