On July 17, 1945, a man named Edward Baielas and a woman named Lillian Baielas gave birth to a child named Betty Jean (Baielas) Lauer in Petoskey Michigan. For her whole childhood she lived in Petoskey, Michigan in a house that her father built. Betty had an older brother named Bill and a younger sister named Beave and they all went to a religious school called Saint Francis for all 12 grades. The reason they went to religious school is because religion was very important to there family. When Betty was in second grade she had her First Communion. Instead of having her Confirmation in eighth grade, she had it in 3rd grade.
Betty remembers her dad taking her to go ice skating every night after dinner. Betty’s father wanted Betty to do speed skating, and Betty tried, but she failed to do so. Betty remembers her father always pushing her, especially when her father made her play the accordion.The instrument was huge, and she played the accordion until freshman year of high school. Growing up, Betty knew a boy whose name was Richard Lauer living only a few blocks away. The boys would play baseball, and Betty remembers trying to play baseball with all of the boys, but they would hit her with a baseball. In her highschool years Betty was in a class of 44 kids. For almost all four years she was the Sodality President. When Betty was the president she got to travel different cities for religious meetings. During these years of highschool she was the Secretary/Treasurer for her class. When Betty was in 12th grade, she and Richard started dating. She was voted for Homecoming Queen and was also on sweetheart court. Betty organized her senior class trip and they went Niagara Falls. After high school Betty went to a local college called Northern Michigan and went there for one whole year. Betty wanted to go to Kendall College in Grand Rapids. Betty’s Father did not want her to do this because going to Kendall was too much of a risk. One year after high school Betty and Richard got engaged. In fall of 1964 they were in Grand Rapids for one of Richard’s brothers wedding. While they were down there they ordered and engagement ring and sent it to Betty’s address. They got married on June 19, 1965.Eight months after they got married, Richard and Betty wanted to move to Grand Rapids to have jobs. Richard left first to go look for a job. In one week, he got a job and Betty went down to go live with him. Being pregnant, Betty got a job working a Union Bank auditing. During this time Betty went to auditing school and took a 12 week course everyday for 4 hours. They let you do your work in any order you wanted. In only two weeks Betty completed the entire course. In 2000, they got married, and both families were involved in one of the longest weddings ever. Brian still worked at steelcase, while Kathryn looked for a job elsewhere. Kathryn went to college to become a teacher and that’s what she wanted to do in life. They moved to a house on Daylor Drive., right next to where Betty and Richard used to live.
At this time, Betty and Richard were living at a place called Bass Lake Drive. They wanted to stay close to family and decided to live here. In 2003, the last of their Grandkids were born to Brian and Kathryn. They had a girl, and her name was Juliana Lauer. Juliana’s life was surround with family being close and formed a very close bond with her Grandparents. Betty and Richard would always look after Juliana when her parents would go out.
Today, Betty and Richard live at Linedrive Ct. with their kids and grandkids all currently living in Grand Rapids Michigan. Family is very important and they try to have Sunday family dinners when they can. Betty still continues doing arts and crafts today and is very happy doing art. Betty and Richard are now great grandparents as well as parents and grandparents. They are very happy to how life turned out. Betty and Richard are ready for what comes next in their
