The Anglerfish’s habitat is another thing that sets it apart from others. It starts when the male reaches maturity and his digestive system stops working. He can no longer feed himself and must find a mate if he wishes to survive. After a mate has been found the female releases a sexual scent and the mating begins. The male attaches himself to the female with its teeth and discharges an enzyme that digests the skin of his mouth and her body. This makes the fusion between the two possible as the male becomes a parasite and their blood vessels join. The female can carry and provide for up to six male fish at a time. As the two (or more) fish are joined the male’s sperm is now available to her when she is ready to reproduce. The month an Anglerfish gives birth in depends on their location, and their eggs can always reach up to one million.
