In 1905, Ernesto Schiaparelli, was working for Museo Egizio in Turin as at the time, were looking to increase its Egyptian collection. He began his excavation in the north part of the Western necropolis as there were small parts of pyramid-shaped chapels that were elevating from the sand. Only months after he was working at the site, Schiaparelli made the discovery of the tomb TT 338; tomb of Maya; well-known from the reign of Tutankhamun and an overseer of the treasures as well as an important official. Due to the decoration, Schiaparelli removed the walls of the chapel with great care and displayed them in the Museum of Turin. After extending his work within the same regain, within the year 1906, Ernesto and his team made the discovery of the tomb of Kha and his wife Meryt; tomb TT8. After Ernesto done his photographic recordings and the team examined the site, the artefacts were given to the Museo Eguzio. These artefacts supplied great information about the 18th Dynasty life.
