WHERE IT ALL BEGAN During the Stone Age, our ancestors were primarily hunters and gatherers. Their diet consist of berries, plants, and animal meat. There was a shortage of factory workers in the United States during war time. Women took to the factories to help out during war time and to provide for their families. This brought women out of the home and into the work place. After the war, me returned and wanted to return to factories. Women were not ready to return to the home. For the first time, women had been independent and not the home makers. This led to a great social change. With women working, there was less time to cook meals. The demand for quicker, more convenient meals, grew. In the 1950s, the first microwave meal was introduced and consumers loved it. Fast food restaurants were on the rise. The demand for convenience was on the rise. Having a refrigerator in the home meant that food could be stored. Processed foods were the growing trend. The 70s brought the trend of organic foods but this was short lived. Men that came home from war had experienced a new culture of food.
