The legendary Chinese general Meng Tian was the director of the project at the time. During the construction, the labor force that built the wall was made up largely of soldiers, convicts and commoners as workers. The wall was more than 6000 kilometers long, mostly made of earth and stone that consists of numerous walls running parallel to each other. The wall is 15-20 feet high and topped by ramparts which was 12 feet or higher so that enemies won’t come into the Chinese Empire. The Great Wall is truly wide at the top; it can put at least four horses or eight people to walk side by side. Along the wall are watchtowers, it is a place where soldier use to lookout to outsider or enemies that’s trying to attack their territory. If there is anything serious that happens, the soldiers will light fire on the towers as warning when they see enemies coming. During the ancient days it was very difficult to build the wall because they didn’t have any modern machines so they use their bare hands to do most of the work. Thousands of men died building the Great Wall and was even buried there where they died.
