Emotional quotient is the capability, ability and dexterity to recognize and manage the emotions of one’s self. Emotional quotient makes us understand how others may get affected by our actions directly or indirectly which is the most important quality in a person of which brings in the sense of social responsibility in everyone. Anne Frank’s book ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ can proves a good example of empathy and emotional quotient in literature. A book in this case works on the mind of the reader where the reader is able to virtually reconstruct the autobiography and story around him, however this depends on the level of imagination of the individual. When a reader flips through Anne Frank’s book, they are able to see the world and experience it through her eyes. Through such involvement, a reader is competent to widen one’s moral horizons. This is where empathy comes to play because one should develop empathy to be a more rational and humanistic person in society.
